MORE/SNORE KC Midnight Special out in Lucern Valley California

Engage Off Road Racing had High’s and Low’s this past weekend at the MORE/SNORE KC Midnight Special out in Lucern Valley California. The Race took place on a warm Saturday in the High Deserts of Southern California. The Race Began as scheduled on a 72 mile lap race course on Saturday September 8th at 3:45 pm and would run into the night. With close to 200 entries and every 15 seconds a vehicle leaving the starting line, this was to be a very exciting door-to-door race.

The first truck off the line for the Engage Off Road Racing Team was the1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck with Driver of Record Jeffrey Musgrave and his two navigators Doug and Brent Page. This was Doug and Brent’s first time navigating in a Class 1400 truck as their origin is racing a Class 9, a limited Volkswagen open wheel race vehicle. They were 6th off the line in Class and started moving up the line with in the first 9 miles. Jeff and the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck had no mechanical issues their first lap; they simply lost one of their two spare tires roughly around Race Mile 50 when they hit a very big roller. Their second lap they unfortunately hit a very large rock in the wash which blew out their passenger side front tire and bent the passenger rear rim. Jeff, Doug and Brent changed out the two tires and got the truck to Race mile 53 where they met up with Chase 2 lead by Crew Chief Jerry Allen and Chase 3 Lead by Chase Chief Michael Anthony Hermogeno, where they overlooked the front suspension, tightened a few bolts and gave Jeff the “OK” to continue the race.

While all of this had been going on, the Second Engage Off Road Race Truck, Racing in Class 1450 and being driven by Driver of Record Hassim Mendez and Navigator James Whitmore were second to take off the line in Class. By Race mile 4 they had already passed up 1st place and were getting into Class 1300 traffic and passing them as the race continued, “the truck was amazing, it loved the new BFGoodrich 37 inch tires and we could go much faster now that we had the better ground clearance and the bigger tires to stay out of the holes” ranted and raved Driver of Record Hassim Mendez after the race. Hassim and James ran the truck hard and had a very good lead over second place by Race Mile 18 where suddenly the motor started to overheat and lost compression. Hassim ran the truck all the way to Race Mile 28 where it lost all power and unfortunately is as far as the 1478 DNAEnergy/EngageOffRoad Toyota Tacoma, BFGoodrich Sponsored 1450 truck made it to. They at that point radioed in to Main Pit Chief Chris Klebe to come get them in the Engage Off Road 4 seat Pre-Runner and start to focus the entire team on getting Jeff and the1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 to the podium.

At this point Team Driver Vi Tang and Navigator Rob Zonne, who were scheduled to race the second half of the race in the 1478 DNAEnergy/EngageOffRoad Toyota Tacoma, BFGoodrich Sponsored 1450 truck were “out of luck” as the truck had broke. The entire time Jeff had been listening to the radio communications and made a decision to get Engage Team Driver Vi Tang and Navigator Rob Zonne in the1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck and help him race the second half of the race. As if the timing was set and planned, Hassim arrived to main camp in tow just in time to help get Doug and Brent out of the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck and get Vi and Rob in, the truck at that point needed another spare tire and rim so the team beat on the bent rim to straight it out and filled it with air, they filled up the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck with fuel and took off into the night to get their place back!

The third lap was a great lap for the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck but the time was running out for the team, as they had to start their fourth and final lap before 11pm to be allowed to go back out and continue racing. Jeff and the1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck started to call out their position at Race Mile 60 to keep the EngageOffRoad Main Pit informed on their location as the cutoff time of 11pm was coming near. Jeff got the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck to main camp at 10:53pm where the Engage Off Road Racing Pit Team did an amazing job, the crew did a “Splash and Dash” of fuel and got the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck in and out of the pit in 1minute 23 seconds. This gave plenty of time for Jeff, Vi and Rob to get the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck to the Start/Finish line that was less than 500 yards away.

At “Start/Finish” Jeff was informed by the race officials that he would have to do a 1 hour lap time to finish in time which would be unheard of in his class as the average lap time was 1hour 40 minutes. Jeff’s reply to the official was “OK!” as he put his foot down on the gas pedal and took off the line into the night to make his racing goal of finishing a race a priority. Unfortunately Jeff, Vi and Rob “times out” but had an amazing fourth lap. Jeff, Vi and Rob caught up fifth place that was over 8 miles ahead of them and passed them by Race Mile 28. They un-officially took 5th place but had a great experience doing so.

Hassim and Jeff both had a great experience just as they always do Racing with MORE, and the entire Engage Off Road Racing Team once again showed that the team effort is what gets them to the finish. Jeff after the race said “the first two laps I drove around race course, the second half I raced thanks to Vi Tang, Rob Zone and the Engage Off Road Racing Team!”

The next scheduled race is the MORE Powder Puff Race in October 6th out in Barstow California where both the Class 1400 and 1450 Engage Off Road Race Trucks will be handing over the driver and passenger seat to Female Drivers and Navigators for “The Race to the Cure!” race this season. Make sure you keep an eye out and cheer on the 1423 DustforDogs.com/EngageOffRoad F-150 truck and the 1478 DNAEnergy/EngageOffRoad Toyota Tacoma, BFGoodrich Sponsored 1450 Truck. See everyone in October…

MORE Freedom 250 July 2012

Engage Off Road Racing once again had a great race this past weekend at the MORE Freedom 250 out in Barstow California on July 21st 2012. Driver for the Engage Off Road Racing Team Vi Tang and New Navigator to the Engage Off Road Racing Team Robert Zone started the race at 6:27 pm on Saturday evening and had a good lead between them and 2nd place at the time by Race Mile 3 as he went over the Famous “Ant Hill” and gave the spectators a good show. Vi Tang said “it was nice to have clean air for once and simply have to worry about what I could see and not worry about what I couldn’t see”. At Race mile 21, Vi Tang had the sun set in his vision and in a tight right turn struck a rock with the Right Front Suspension which led to the Rack & Pinion to split, Driver Vi Tang and Navigator Robert Zone did a great job to get the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck to Race Mile 29 where Pit B was stationed. The Engage Off Road Racing Chase Team Lead by Mathew Teague assessed the situation, filled the Power steering pump with fluid, toed the truck and told Vi and Robert to get the truck to Main Pit and get it repaired.

Once the truck came into Main Pit, the Engage Off Road Race Team led by Crew Chief Jerry Allen took control and put the Rack and Pinion back together, topped off the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck with fluids and Driver of Record Hassim “Hass” Mendez and New Navigator to the Engage Off Road Race Team Bryan Blagg got under way to commence the second lap of the MORE Freedom 250. The Truck handled great up until Race Mile 23 where they lost the Front Right Tire and had a flat that put the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck into the cliff in the Hills of Barstow. Luckily “Lost Boys Racing” was there in the area with their 4x4 Chase Vehicle and gave Hassim and Bryan a hand Pulling the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck back onto race course and helping them change the Front Right flat tire. Once again the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck was back on the move and 7 miles before start finish, Hassim and Bryan felt the steering becoming hard once again. They radioed in to Main Pit and notified Crew Chief Jerry Allen that once again there were problems with the Rack and Pinion. Once Hassim and Bryan got the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck to Main Pit, Crew chief Jerry seen the Rack and Pinion once again Split into two Pieces. Jerry at that point told the team to completely remove the Rack and Pinion and they engineered a way to use the Towing Flat Bed Trailer (used to tow the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck to and from the races) and two ratcheting straps as a “Desert Press” and assembled the Rack and Pinion once again. At that point once again the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck was up and running and Driver Vi Tang and Navigator Robert Zone got in the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck and took off into the Barstow Desert night to complete their third and final lap for the night. Vi and Robert had no more issues that night and got the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck to the finish line after the 12:30 am cut off point set my MORE that concluded their Freedom 250 Race.

Once again the Engage Off Road Racing Team had the drive to get the truck up and running and get the points needed to stay in the Points Race for the 2012 MORE Class 1450 Champion Ship Race. Hassim said after the race “again the team showed that equipment isn’t everything, a good race crew can get you out of anything”. The Engage Off Road Race Team did a great job and we are all proud of everyone. Next Race is the MORE Chili Cook Off on Sept. 8th 2012 out in Lucern Valley California, and the Engage Off Road Race Team will be out there to put the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 Race Truck on the podium and take the win!

Great weekend of Baja Racing!!!!!!!!!

Great weekend of Baja Racing, the Engage Off Road Class 11 car took 3rd place in the RECORD Ensenada to San Felipe Race. Co-Driver Francisco "Pancho" Andrade took the car from the Start at Ojos Negros to the mid way point @ Race mile 90 at Valley of Trinidad with no serious issues, at one point near race mile 70 "El Jamau" Pancho said "the dirt caught me put us on two wheels and the only Baja knows why we didnt roll!", once at the half way point Driver of Record Enrique Alejandro Gómez Salinas took control of the car for the stretch leading to San Felipe and had over 75 miles of San Felipe Whoops ahead of him.

At one point Erique drove the car for over 20 miles with a front flat tire in the San Felipe Whoops to get to his Chase Team to swap the tire out. Hassim Mendez navigated from the Start all the way to the finish and did his best to keep the faster moving cars away from the class 11 but ar Race Mile 109 in the wash Hassim Said "A 5 car came out of no where and took us for a ride, no warning, just nerfed us and "helped" us get thru the sandy section for 200 yards, the fastest the 11 car has ever gone thru sand". The Class 11 took off the line at 9:59am and crossed the finish line at 4:33pm, it took 6 Hours and 34 minutes to race across the Baja Peninsula with a 1 hour Mandatory stop at Valley of Trinidad with an average speed of 34 miles per hour. Great Job Engage Off Road Racing and the Baja Team!!!

FIRST PLACE out at the MORE California 500 in Lucern Valley!!!!!!

Engage Off Road Racing had a very successful racing weekend this past weekend out at the MORE California 500 in Lucern Valley. They took the DNA Energy/ EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 truck to the top of the podium with a 1st place finish. With driver of record Hassim Mendez taking on help from Engage Drivers Jerry Allen and Vi Tang, they successfully accomplished their goal of finishing the California 500 and because of their great pace got to place 1st in Class.

The MORE California 500 started off on Sat. Morning May 19th on a bright and sunny California day at 10a.m. The DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich, Toyota Tacoma 1450 Truck was the 7th truck to take off the line with Engage Driver Jerry Allen and Navigator Josh Frakes in control for the first lap. They set a great pace as by Race Mile 27 they were 3rd in class. On the second lap the the DNA Energy/ EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 truck was given to Engage Driver Vi Tang and Navigator Jhonny Alagna. They continued the great pace and by Race Mile 35 were in Second Place. On the 3rd lap the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 truck was given to Driver of Record Hassim Mendez and his Navigator James Whitmore to continue that great pace, by race mile 18 they were in 1st place and never looked back. The 4th lap started with Jerry and Josh in control again of the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 truck and had an astonishing lead over 2nd place of over 1 hour. At Race Mile 27 the Engage Off Road Racing Pit team “A” lead by Pit Chief Aaron Hawk noticed the passage side front coilover reservoir “hanging off and being bashed around” as the DNA Energy/ EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 truck flew by them on course. At that point Aaron then notified the Engage Pit “B” Chief Bryan Blagg to flag the truck down and stop it no matter what. They were able to accomplish their goal and stop the truck, re-attach the reservoir and get the truck back up and running in a couple of minutes. Then it went south, at Race Mile 35 Jerry called out that the rear end was blown, Jerry was only able to contact Mohawk Mike on the Race Radio due to his location in the hills, so it was Mohawk Mike’s responsibility to coordinate the Pit teams and Main Camp to get the help to the race truck and more importantly the parts. He was a success as the truck was back up and running with in 1 hour but had lost their 1st place and now sat in 2nd place with 1 ½ laps to go. Jerry and Josh got the truck back to Main where Vi and Brandon Gose started the 5th lap and by Race Mile 34 once again the DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 truck was back in 1st place. Vi brought the truck in and Driver of Record Hassim and James took the truck out on the final lap and finished the race without any more issues. It was a great team victory for EngageOffRoad Racing and all of their sponsors. DNA Energy Drinks, Tough- light.com, California Mini Trucks, Snap-On Dealer Javier Morales, King-of-HID.com, Untold Grafix and 8x10proofs.com.

The DNA Energy/EngageOffRoad BFGoodrich Toyota Tacoma 1450 truck is now being prepped and getting ready for the SCORE Baja 500 to go have a great race down in Baja!!! See everyone down their……EngageOffRoad Racing

ESSOR Engage 200

It was not easy for Oswaldo Moncada but he was able to take the overall victory at ESSOR’s first race of 2012, the Engage 200 Off Road race, he beat Victor Hugo Terriquez by one second.

Moncada had the fastest times on both heats at the Rancho Grijalva’s 8 mile loop in Ojos Negros, his total time was 3 hours, 12 minutes and 58 seconds while Terriquez stopped the clock at 3:12:59.

Juan Pablo Gonzalez started the season in great shape by winning the ATV expert class. The ATV sportsman was taken by Hiram Agundez.

A total of 36 teams from Mexico and U.S.A. took the green flag at Ojos Negros in what was the first of five races that promoter Carlos Tapia will be organizing this year.

Fausto Moreno was the fastest 4 wheel vehicle in the open class; he took advantage of other racers misfortunes like Enrique Muñoz whose buggy had suspension problems when he started the second heat.

Unlike other events, Essor decided to have carnival games in order to keep a family atmosphere. This was different than what a traditional off road race usually offers. Baja is always has a surprise for everybody.

Tyler Bolland had to drive close to 2 days each way from Boise Idaho in order to be present at the race and according to him the long trip was well worth it since in Baja he always has so much fun.

Bolland is a U.S. Army veteran and now his focus is to beat Baja. He has previous experience from SCORE International events.

Unfortunately Bolland couldn’t finish the race. He had a blown rear shock on his Toyota Tacoma, but he assured everyone that he will be back for more Essor races this season.
